Sadie Reid, the founder and editor of Hip and Healthy, the first online multi-branded health and wellbeing retailer and online magazine is in the hot seat this week. Sadie is the ultimate pro-juggler of the work/life situ – balancing two kids, her husband and her job and doing it so effortlessly.

So, we were really intrigued to quiz her more and find out what we could steal from this wellness superstar’s routine to add to ours – but it was mostly just adding Booja Booja chocolates to everything, and we’re kinda okay with that.

Q. What is your earliest food memory?

A. Eating tuna pasta at my best friend’s house when I was about 8 – her mum put anchovies in it, and it was delicious! From that moment onwards I have been hooked on anchovies and would add them to everything if I could!

Q. What is your guiltiest food pleasure?

A. Two words: Booja Booja

Q. What meal do you eat most often?

A. Jacket potato with avocado, wild salmon, watercress, tomatoes and a bunch of basil (minimum effort but maximum nutrition)

Q. What role does food play in your life?

A. I eat to live more than live to eat. So it plays a huge role in the way that I am always thinking about the nutritional value and energy in every meal. But at the same time, I am always in a rush and tend to prepare my meals as quickly as possible.

Q. What does your daily routine look like?

A. My day’s start early with my littlest boy waking me up around 6am at the moment. Then it’s a cup of hot water and lemon. I then wake up the rest of the males in my house (my husband and other son!) and what follows is probably the most stressful and chaotic hour of my day trying to get everyone ready and out the door on time.

Work is a short commute away and involves picking up an oat mylk latte on route.
I’ll often fit in a run at some point over my lunch break as it keeps me sane. I then rush back to pick up my eldest from school before heading home and giving everyone supper. When the kids are eating, I’ll head up to the study to do a couple of hours more work. Then it’s chill time with the bubbas before bed. Bedtime then goes on way too long but by then my husband is often at home to help. We then have our supper together and watch some amazing(read crap) TV to relax.

Q. What is your biggest motivator?

A. I love my work. I feel so very lucky to be doing something I love. And my kids motivate me to keep going even in the tougher times. That and school fees!

Q. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

A. Older, greyer and hopefully a bit wiser

Q. How much time do you spend on social media a day and what role does it play in your business?

A. I don’t look after our social media channels so often take a social media hiatus when I am feeling a bit anxious or stressed. It is really important for the business though, so I am just very lucky that I don’t need to be the one monitoring it all the time.

Q. In your opinion, what’s the key to success?

A. I have recently learned that success is more about learning how to fail a bit better because the two come hand in hand and also its about enjoying the journey – if you enjoy the journey then whatever happens it’s a success.

Q. What is the best bit of advice you’ve ever received?

A. Don’t pick your spots. You’ll make a mountain out of a mole hill… but do I ever learn!!! NO!
